General Anaesthetic (GA) is the drug induced absence of all sensation allowing surgery or other painful procedures to be carried out on an unconscious (ASLEEP) patient. Inhalation agents may be used as well as other general anaesthetic agents to achieve this state. The patient must be starved prior to the treatment and must be accompanied by a responsible escort. Gingivae Those parts of the gums which surround the necks of the teeth.
Gingivitis is a reaction of the gums caused by the accumulation of plaque around the gum margins (gingivae). The gums become swollen, red, sore and may bleed when brushed. Gingivitis is completely reversible and with an improvement in brushing and flossing, the gums may return to health. However if gingivitis persists it may develop into periodontitis.
Glass ionomer Silicate based white filling material. Used to restore cervical (around the tooth neck) abrasion and erosion cavities, deciduous teeth, the sides of back teeth or as a temporary filling. May also be used as a lining under amalgam or composite fillings.
