Malocclusion A misalignment between the occlusion of the upper and lower teeth. May require orthodontic treatment.

Mandible The lower jawbone.

Mastication The act of chewing.

Maxilla The upper jawbone.

Molars Broad multi cusped teeth. They are furthest back teeth in the upper and lower jaws. Adults have 12 molars including the wisdom teeth (also known as third molars). These teeth are used for grinding and masticating food.

Mouthguard A device which protects the teeth from trauma during contact sports. These are best made by a dentist as shop bought mouthguards may not offer sufficient protection.
