Occlusion is the relationship between the biting surfaces of the upper and lower teeth.

Onlay A porcelain or gold inlay which is extended to cover the cusps. Similar to a crown, but less natural tooth structure is covered.

Oral Surgery Any surgical procedure carried out in the mouth. Common procedures include wisdom tooth removal, apicectomy, raising of flaps for eg root removal, etc.

Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry concerned with the growth of the face, development of the occlusion and the prevention and correction of occlusal anomalies. Simple orthodontics may be performed by dentists, but most cases are best dealt with by an orthodontist. Orthodontists are specialists who after qualifying as dentists underwent formal extensive post graduate training.

Overbite The vertical overlap relationship of the upper teeth over the lower teeth.

Overdenture A denture which lies over a retained tooth root or implant.

Overjet The horizontal projection of the upper incisors. If the overjet is high these teeth may even be trapped between the lips. Can be corrected with orthodontics.
