1. The first stage is to see the topical anaesthetic. There are many flavours available.

When used later, it will be placed on the area where the injection is to be for approximately 90 seconds. This area becomes numb which allows the needle to be passed comfortably a few millimeters into the tissue next to the tooth to be numbed.
